Women's Game
The women’s program within Blind Cricket New South Wales has grown significantly in recent years as part of the broader expansion of women’s blind cricket across Australia.
For many years, blind and vision-impaired women primarily participated in mixed or open competitions, with limited opportunities for standalone women’s representative teams.
A major breakthrough came in 2023 when Australia formed its first-ever national women’s blind cricket team for the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) World Games in Birmingham, England. The tournament marked the first time blind cricket had been included at the IBSA World Games and the first time Australia had sent a women’s blind cricket team to international competition.
The Australian Women’s Blind Cricket Team made history by reaching the final at Edgbaston after strong performances throughout the tournament. Australia ultimately won the silver medal after finishing runners-up to India in the gold medal match.
Players from NSW were part of this new era of women’s blind cricket and helped strengthen the national pathway for female blind and vision-impaired cricketers. The success of the inaugural national team helped drive further growth in women’s participation, development camps, and representative opportunities across Australia, including within Blind Cricket NSW programs.
Since then, the NSW women’s pathway has continued to strengthen through:
- participation in national development camps,
- involvement in the National Cricket Inclusion Championships (NCIC),
- increased collaboration with Cricket NSW high-performance programs,
- and growing recruitment of female players across regional and metropolitan NSW.
Today, Blind Cricket NSW continues to support the expansion of women’s blind cricket by creating inclusive opportunities for women and girls with vision impairment to participate socially, competitively, and at representative level as the sport continues to grow nationally and internationally.
